Our religious school Kindergarten, 3rd grade and 4th grade celebrated Ceremony Sunday on May 4th along with their parents and teachers in the main sanctuary. Rae Levy was also honored for her 56 years of teaching service at the religious school.

Director of Education Sharon Wasserberg led the ceremonies. Kindergartners with their teacher Debbie Lempert sang "I am Jewish" as part of their "Consecration" ceremony.  Third graders, taught by Zahava Rendler, assistant Erik Stillpass, and choir director Mitch Cohen, took part in "Siddur Dedication."  They demonstrated their ability to recite the Sh'ma and the Amida.  They also sang and danced Ashrei, Sim Shalom, and Ein Kelohenu. Fourth graders, taught by Jenny Grubbs and assistant Eryn Kipner took part in "Torah Induction" and performed a Torah drama.

Rabbi Wise blessed the children and their parents as they marked this milestone in their Jewish education.

Sharon Wasserberg presented Rae Levy a beautifully framed "Teacher's Prayer" in honor of her over 56 years of service. Rae Levy delivered a heartfelt address to the congregation remembering her many years of service. She spoke about how much her parents influenced her Jewish traditions. She spoke about the three T's in teaching she strove to instill in her students...."Try your best", "Torah," and "Team Work". She remembered fondly about how many in the congregation had been her students over the past 56 years. She remembered starting teaching as a teenager.  She also talked about her recent Passover at Cedar Village.

The service was followed by a kiddush reception in the Lerner.Fisher Hall.

In past years, it was the tradition to have three separate Shabbat ceremonies; Consecration for Kindergarten, Siddur Dedication for 3rd grade and Torah Induction for 4th grade. Last year, due to the renovation of our main sanctuary, these ceremonies were combined on one Sunday. With great feedback from parents and teachers, the school decided to continue having a combined "Ceremony Sunday".
