High Holy Day Choir

Our Adath Israel Choir under the direction of Mitch Cohen, provides musical inspiration for our congregation during our High Holy Day services.

Our choir has a diverse group of both men and women volunteers ranging in ages from 13 to over 90+ years.

Cantor Dani Birnbaum travels to Adath Israel each High Holy Days from Israel with his wife Bat 'Ella and 4 children. Bat E'lla is a recording artist in Israel, and participates with Cantor Dani along with her children to make the Holy Days a unique experience at Adath Israel.

Our Choir Director, Mitch Cohen grew up at Adath Israel and has composed several original liturgical pieces for cantor and choir that congregants will hear, including Unetaneh Tokev, UvaShofar Gadol, Yaahleh, El Melech Yoshev, Sh'ma Kolenu, Psalm 23, and Psalm 27.

Our choir practices during the summer months to get ready for the High Holy Days. Requirements for choir membership are:

  • Must be a member of Adath Israel Congregation

  • Must enjoy music and singing with others

  • A formal musical background is not required.
