Adath Israel is proud of our Mercaz High School Seniors who chose a
senior project to raise money to keep our Chaverim M'Yisrael program
for
next year. YASHER KOCHCHEM!
Mercaz High School
seniors embarked on
an ambitious project this school year to
raise $40,000, so that the Jewish
Federation could continue the Chaverim
M'Yisrael program. Because of the
difficult economy, the Jewish Federation
of Cincinnati announced that they would
need to cut the Chaverim program. After
hearing the announcement, the Mercaz
senior class decided that they would
raise the $40,000 as their senior
project. In June, they successfully
completed the project by receiving the
final donations to put them over the top
of their $40,000 goal. Dara Wood,
director of Mercaz states, "It is proof
that kids can make a difference and they
certainly did here!"
Mercaz took on a leadership role
involving many in the community,
including a number of area religious
schools, who donated their tzedakah
towards the effort.
The Jewish Federation of
Cincinnati has already selected two
chaverim m'Israel (friends from Israel)
for the 2009-2010 school year. In
September of 2009, two 18-year-old
students from Netanya, Tomer Peretz and
Chen Ezer, will arrive in Cincinnati to
live and serve our community as Israeli
emissaries, bringing Israeli culture to
young people in our religious schools,
day schools, college campuses, secular
schools, and youth movements.
Mercaz High School's students are
from the area's Conservative
congregations, including Adath
Israel, Northern Hills, Ohav Shalom,
and B'nai Tzedek. Mercaz enrollment
is also open to the community.
