Mercaz Senior Michael Backman Awarded Dombar Award

Adath Israel Congregation would like to congratulate Mercaz Senior and Adath Israel Congregation member, Michael Backman, on having received the Abe and Sarah (z’l) Dombar Award.  The Dombar Award is given every year to a Mercaz graduate from Adath Israel Congregation who not only has outstanding attendance at Mercaz, but who exhibits a drive and desire to learn, has good participation during class and a positive presence with peers and in the school.  The award was presented during Shavuot morning services on Monday June 9th.

This year Adath Israel was blessed with a number of qualified candidates for this award.  However, Michael stood out as a prime candidate.  He is quite knowledgeable and his thoughtful participation during class made discussions vibrant.  His attendance throughout his years in Mercaz was excellent.

Mazal tov to Michael Backman and his parents, Dr. Bonita Malit and David Backman, on receiving the Abe and Sarah Dombar Award from Adath Israel Congregation.  Michael will continue his education in the fall at Honors College at the University of Pittsburgh.
