Did I just see Jake and Elwood Blues up on the bima
davening minha to the tune of "Soul Man" with Elwood
harmonizing with a harmonica? And who was that magician with
the powerful voice throwing candy out to the cheering congregation?
Well, Jake and Elwood Blues were none other than our own Alan Weiner
and Mitch Delcau like you've never seen them before dancing arm and
arm around the bima. And the magician was our own Rabbi Wise. Purim
is one chance during the year to see our entire congregation let
their hair down (or put their hair up or put on masks or hats or
wigs...you name it!).
The megillah was read by our Adath Israel teens, including
Elka Bresler, Lenny Bresler, Lianna Costantini, Gabe Englander, Rafi
Goldfarb, Arthur Kurtzman, Jake Paul, Lainey Paul, Hannah Rashkin,
Nina Schneider, Brandon Sosna, Jonah Raider Roth, Steven
Winkler, Tami Winkler, Adam Wolf, Freddie Wolf, Lauren Zakem, and
Zachary Zakem .
This year, special macaroni groggars were sold as a
fund raiser and the macaroni boxes were later donated to the food
pantry.
After the "not so formal" service, a celebration
featuring the Klezmer Project continued in the Lerner.Fisher Hall
with dancing, drink, juggling, balloons, and more.
There was a raffle held for 2 free tickets to
Israel. Proceeds helped to purchase new chairs for our Lerner.Fisher
Hall. The winners were Larry and Joanne Essig.
