A strong synagogue is vital to a healthy Jewish community. Because the synagogue is so important in our community, it’s important for its members to feel a personal connection to it. The synagogue should be a place where members feel comfortable praying, studying, socializing, and just being part of a community. Adath Israel Sisterhood, the heart of the congregation, offers the women of Adath Israel – with all of their different interests, tastes, and ages – another opportunity to make that connection.

Adath Israel Sisterhood, through its programs and projects, provides its members with:

A place to learn how to become fulfilled, committed, observant, and knowledgeable Jewish women.
A place to learn how to develop Jewish traditions in the home that will last for generations.
A place to establish lasting friendships.
A place to develop leadership and organizational skills.
A place to network.
A place to perform mitzvot that betters our community and our nation.

Sisterhood women are continually working on fund-raising projects and events. Monies raised from these activities support many aspects of the Adath Israel organization. We have a very active staff of volunteers who have developed our Judaica Shop into a very successful on-going fund-raiser. Recently we published the Adath Israel Sisterhood Kosher Cookbook. This cookbook was compiled over several years and is filled with hundreds of recipes donated by Sisterhood members. We have several Sisterhood Funds that anyone can contribute to in honor of a simcha or as a memorial for a loved one. Sisterhood’s Fund-Raising Vice President is continually developing new fund-raising activities.

A large portion of what we raise every year goes to the religious school, youth programs, and in to a fund which helps our children attend Camp Ramah and travel to Israel. We want our children and grandchildren to be active with other Jewish youths and to grow up to become knowledgeable, Jewish adults.

Adath Israel Sisterhood is affiliated with the KIPOT branch of Women’s League for Conservative Judaism. Women’s League is an organization that provides services to more than 700 affiliated sisterhoods in Conservative synagogues around the world. It is dedicated to the perpetuation of traditional Judaism in the home, synagogue and community, as well as to the continuing Jewish education of its members. Women’s League continually sends us educational materials filled with program hints and ideas and keeps us abreast of what’s going on around the world, especially in Israel. Women’s League gives us opportunities every year to meet with women from other sisterhoods in other cities to share ideas and experiences. We also participate in Women’s League’s annual Torah Fund Campaign, which supports the Jewish Theological Seminary of America. Adath Israel Sisterhood is continually changing in form and function to keep up with the times.

However, our basic tenets never change. Sisterhood is the heart of the congregation. We offer the women of Adath Israel a warm, loving way to find a personal connection to their synagogue, emphasizing love of family, observance of mitzvot, the perpetuation of Conservative Judaism, and the land of Israel.
