Get
Started on Mitzvah Day Now!
Donation bins can be
found in the synagogue coat room.
Food
Drive-As Jews we are obligated to
feed the hungry. Please help fulfill this
commandment by donating non-perishable food
items and other personal necessities to the
Jewish Family Services Food Drive. All items
donated between now and August 22 will be
taken to the JFS on Mitzvah Day (August 24)
to stock the food pantry.

Book
Drive-Jews are the people of the
book! Feed the hungry with your food items,
and while you're in the coat closet, drop
off some books for the hungry minds of Adath
Israel. We love Jewish-themed books, but
because all money collected from the sale of
the books goes to programs in Netanya, we'll
take just about any book that someone might
want to read.
School Supplies Drive-Few
things are as important as educating our
young people. Please help make going
back to school fresh and exciting by
bringing in new school supplies for
children in need.
Thank you for your
support of Mitzvah Day!

Adath Israel Adult Studies:
Call For Ideas &
Requests
We're
seeking your input about topics/activities you'd
like to see included in our Adult Studies
curriculum for the 2008-2009 academic year. Are
there subjects you wish were available? Please
share them! Use your imagination-all ideas are
welcome, and we would also like to know: what
are the best class times and days for your
schedule?
Expand your Jewish knowledge, meet your fellow
congregants, and have some fun while finding new
meaning in our Jewish customs and prayers. It's
never too late to learn something new.
Please contact Deb Feldman with your ideas:

Save a
Life - Pikuah Nefesh
Consider Donating a Kidney
Within
the Cincinnati Jewish community, Wendy Munick
has a disease that requires a kidney transplant
for her to live. While people live quite
normally with just one kidney, finding a donor
is difficult, and Wendy's O-positive blood makes
this an especially challenging possibility.
If
you might be willing to perform a very
important mitvah and are intersted in
being tested to see if you are a possible match
for Wendy, please read more about Wendy and her
situation on our website:

Home
Hospitality Opportunity
The
P2K Summer Basketball Committee has a need
to house Israeli players (16-18 yrs old) and
their coaches/chaperones coming to celebrate
Israel@60 and participate in the
International High School Basketball
Tournament in July that P2K is helping
coordinate. Home hospitality is needed from
July 15 through the afternoon of July 20 and
between the late afternoon of July 25
through July 31, when they leave to return
to Israel.
We estimate a need for
20 host homes. If interested, please contact
Julie Brook (319-3939 cell), Jerry Lindahl
(520-6027 cell), or Dr. Richard Goldfarb
(673-7421 cell). A letter will be mailed to
potential host families including all
details, along with an application.

What's Jewish about...
Feeding the
hungry?
"When you reap the harvest in your
field and overlook a sheaf in the field, do not
turn back to get it; it will go to the stranger,
the orphan, and the widow." (Deut 24:19)
What can you do?
It's estimated that one billion people
in the world suffer from hunger at any given
time, and some of them live right here in
Cincinnati. Anytime other than Shabbat or Yom
Tov, make it a habit to bring nonperishable
goods with you to the synagogue and place them
in the food pantry bins in the coatroom. |

May it be your will, Adonai,
our G-d and the G-d of our ancestors, to
guide [them] in peace. Prepare [them],
support [them], and lead [them] to
[their] chosen destination[s] in peace,
joy, and well-being, and lead [them]
home again in peace. Protect [them] from
enemies and dangers along the way, from
terrors that may confront [them]. Bring
blessing to [their] endeavors. May
[they] enjoy grace, love, and compassion
in your sight and in the eyes of
everyone [they] meet. Heed our concerns,
for you are G-d, who responds to prayer
and petition. Praised are you Adonai,
who listens to prayer.
