During Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur to the surprise of many we are to focus upon and pray for the well being of our world and all of humanity.  We are not only concerned with the Jewish people and Israel, and certainly not only concerned with ourselves and our loved ones.  Recently, a leader and elder of our community whom I have great respect for shared with me that his biggest concern for the future of the Jewish people, our country and the world is simply but profoundly put, selfishness.  During our class on Rosh HaShanah we will look at prayers and teachings that challenge us to consider our own selfishness and its impact and how selfishness threatens our very future and the future of our planet.  We will consider what we can do and what we need to do by how we live our lives to begin to turn (teshuvah) this around.   A hint: close to 100% of Jewish prayers are in the common plural—we, us, our—and not in the common singular—I, me, my.
