Mitch Cohen
Our Cantor & Choir Director
This is Mitch's sixth year as our cantor. Mitch is a product of Adath Israel. He credits Adath Israel's Junior Congregation for giving him his start along with his teachers and mentors Alan Weiner, Rabbi Wise, Cantor Dani Birnbaum, and Silvan Reisenfeld z"l. Mitch joined the Adath choir at the age of 16 and became Choir Director in 1990. Over the past 35 years, he composed the arrangements for several choral pieces, including Unetaneh Tokev, Uva Shofar Gadol, Yaaleh, Hinini, El Melech Yoshev, and Hodieni.
He studied musical theater voice for over 10 years under the tutelage of Karl Resnik, the Executive Director of the Musical Arts Center in Cincinnati. He is currently studying with Lauren Le Roux at the Cincinnati Music Academy. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati with BA in Psychology, where he also studied composition and music theory at CCM (College Conservatory of Music). He is married to Sherry and has three children, Jeff, Emily, and Ben. His son Jeff has sung in our choir for 20 years, where he met his wife Nicole.
